Where Are Good Places To Fly Fish In The US?

April 2nd, 2009 | How To Fly Fish | 8 Comments »

I've been going to the Carolina mountains loads and want to get out and explore someplace prestine and restful. Any advice on fresh water boating nearby would be great too.

Good places in the U.S. to flyfish are Colorado, utah,Wyoming,N. Cal.,Washington,Montana, And Oregon. If you want the best in the U.S. to flyfish is def. Alaska. The others are great but do not compare to A.K. How do I know ? Because I have flyfished all over the U.S. and there are more and bigger fish up here.

Washington, Oregon, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, are all excellent states to go fly fishing. I suggest looking at each states Fish and Boat Commission Website they all give the locations for fishing.

One place that is often overlooked is the Tri-State area of Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota. There are hundreds if not thousands of miles of spring fed streams running through those areas. SE Minnesota and NE Iowa host numerous streams that run with brown, rainbow and brook trout. People can spend a day on a stream without any interuptions and can jump from stream to stream in a few minutes. Beautiful scenery and great fishing! I suggest you hire a guide for a few hours on day one, to find out whats working, and go from there.

I didn't see South Dakota mentioned but I have done fantastic there! Custer State Park is one of the best I've fished in a while and I live close to the Esopus in NYS where Trout fishing is considered one of the best in the northeast! I put my vote on South Dakota and Montana!
