Do Any One Know About A Fly Fish? A Fish That Will Just Jump In Your Boat With Out You Catching It?
May 31st, 2009 | How To Fly Fish | 8 Comments »I heard about these different fishes on a show but I was doing something at the time that I did not get all the facts.
They are not in fact flying fish but they are a species of Cuban/Spanish Carp that have been released into several lakes and rivers in the northeastern United States. They are thriving but are not a native species to the US.They are shiney silver in color and range from a few pounds up to 20+ pounds in weight. The fish react to vibration of boat motors (and mild electric current) They can jump as high as 8 feet out of the water, and yes they can jump into your boat. A few people have suffered minor injuries are being slammed by bigger fish as they jump blindly out of the water. Since these fish are high in numbers, the water literally errupts with them as hundreds react to the vibrations in the water, jumping every direction. Pretty incredible to see. There has been a lot of TV coverage about them lately. They are having a very negative effect on the natural enviornment because they eat the same things natural species of fish eat.
Sorry,not as easy as that!damn!

This is usually at a time when the fish are on the move or going upstream to make babies. Sometimes they jump out of the water and land in your boat. Flying fish do the same. That's about all I know why is a pretty good question.

ya my dad told me that story to, it kelp us kids away from the edge of the boat, hahaha.

Flying Fish don't actually "fly" they skim the surface of the ocean, and use their fins to direct travel. They don't "jump" into boats either, but they have been known to land in a boat or two when the boat suddenly changes direction.
I've seen them dozens of times while out on the water.. really cool to watch and see how far they can "fly".
There was something on CNN the other night about fish that were literally jumping out of the water into a boat.. but that was because of an electrical charge they put into the water that shocked the fish out of the water.. it was pretty cool to watch

Don't have the particular species for ya', but I also viewed a T.V. program where fish (freshwater) would literally come out of the water and compound bows were used ta' get em'. Been fishin' for a looooooong time and have never witnessed such a thing. I thought it was pretty slick, because I would think one has ta' be one hell'uva shot ta' nail a fish in the air. Ha', after my remark of bein' "pretty slick", I'll have the PETA idiots comin' out of the woodwork!!@#*&!! Hope some other responders know the species of fish ~ like ta' know myself
