when i do the normal roll cast the line comes towards me then out. is that normal coz i whipped myself with the line (luckily i didnt have a fly on)

Very good way of …
Very good way of teachin a roll cast:) I seemed to learn it sideways! My rod not going over my shoulder @ all. Left/Right either way… leaving around 8-10 feet of line on water. Rod @ a straight line in front of me, then doing a “Backward” “C” formation. I can roll cast this way @ least 40 feet of line:) I do use the other way also not as much don’t ask why lol Roll casting is a great thing I fish on a boardwalk lots with 20-30 passing by every min an never hooked anyone so its all good:)
