    they don’t technically fly. They jump out of the water and spread their fins to glide above the water for a few seconds. The record for a flying fish glide is 30 seconds. hope this helped :D

    Since they are fish, they need to leap out of the water to "fly." To do that they swim really fast and angle their bodies so they can take off out of the water. Once in the water they spread their pectoral fins to glide. Their pectoral fins are apparently aerodynamic, and shaped much like bird wings and airplane wings, with a thick leading edge to provide lift.

    to add to the above response, they move more similar to the motion of dolphins jumping in and out out of water. it helps them go faster
