Elemental Salt Water Fishing

By ama · May 31, 2009 · Filed in Uncategorized · No Comments »

There are many exciting varieties of fish just waiting for those that want to indulge in saltwater fishing including cod, tarpon, eels, sea catfish, barracuda, mackerel, swordfish, bass, tuna, sharks and a lot more. Success in this endeavor requires having the proper saltwater fishing gear and so the first thing you will need to do is to go out and buy the best quality fishing rod and preferably one that is between eight to nine feet in length. Additionally, the rod must be very strong.

Withstands Corrosion

As far as reels are concerned you need to choose those that can withstand corrosion in the saltwater and so you will need to consider buying those that are made out of stainless steel, fiber or resin and even of titanium. Despite the possibility of having to spend a hundred dollars you should not mind this cost because you will need to use only reels that are of excellent quality.

The line should float which will do well in shallow waters though for underwater saltwater fishing you would need a middle ground line. Other items of saltwater fishing gear that are imperative to have on hand include leaders as well as flies.

The right saltwater fishing gear is the first part of the equation after which you can now concentrate on the proper method of casting the line. The best practice is to go light and not try to use a line that is overweight. Getting some lessons from a professional may be necessary if you have no experience casting.

Hooking the fish is another part of saltwater fishing and you need to understand that it is not right to try and lift the rod too high up in the air because it is far better to try and upset the swimming pattern of the fish by attempting to roll the rod. In regard to type of bait to use for saltwater fishing you may have to choose between artificial and live bait though live bait is well suited for a good many different types of fish. The use of baitfish as well as shrimp is recommended for live baits.

Saltwater fly fishing requires use of a tackle that is on the heavy side and in addition, it requires using wet flies that look just like local bait fish. In the case of saltwater fishing you have to remember that you must have the proper equipment on hand and with many online websites provide detailed information about saltwater fishing you can, by visiting these websites, get all the required information to get the most out of your next saltwater fishing trip.

Good lawd, that's a lot of bands…….

Zen Guerilla kind of takes a page from the MC5 book, playing some raw gritty blues-influenced rock 'n' roll.

The Dicks – Old school punk from Austin. Mudhoney covered this one.

Mono – Post-rock from Japan. I saw them live a little more than a month ago and the sounds they created were mind-boggling.

John Fahey. This guy was amazing with the guitar.

Monorchid – Actually I just found this one looking for Circus Lupus but it seems pretty sweet.

Wow, Asylum Street Spankers. I went to school with Guy Forsythe's brother. I didn't think anyone knew them.

Great call on The Jayhawks Darth.

Do Any One Know About A Fly Fish? A Fish That Will Just Jump In Your Boat With Out You Catching It?

By admin · May 31, 2009 · Filed in How To Fly Fish · 8 Comments »

I heard about these different fishes on a show but I was doing something at the time that I did not get all the facts.

They are not in fact flying fish but they are a species of Cuban/Spanish Carp that have been released into several lakes and rivers in the northeastern United States. They are thriving but are not a native species to the US.They are shiney silver in color and range from a few pounds up to 20+ pounds in weight. The fish react to vibration of boat motors (and mild electric current) They can jump as high as 8 feet out of the water, and yes they can jump into your boat. A few people have suffered minor injuries are being slammed by bigger fish as they jump blindly out of the water. Since these fish are high in numbers, the water literally errupts with them as hundreds react to the vibrations in the water, jumping every direction. Pretty incredible to see. There has been a lot of TV coverage about them lately. They are having a very negative effect on the natural enviornment because they eat the same things natural species of fish eat.

Catching Late Fall Lake Erie Walleye:AMAZING Trophies!

By ama · May 29, 2009 · Filed in Uncategorized · No Comments »

Old School Walleye Fishing Family Secrets

When the weather turns cold in late fall right before the ice in, Lake Erie is one of the best fisheries for Walleye. If you are willing to brave the cold you can catch some very large walleye along the Ohio shoreline of Lake Erie. The reason the large walleye are cruising the Ohio coasts of Lake Lake Erie is because the gizzard shad are schooling along these same areas getting ready for winter.

Boat anglers typically troll crankbaits and stickbaits behind planer boards in areas close to shore, sometimes in as little as 10’ of water.Baits, such as Reef Runners and Rapalas, are fished in the upper portion or the water column to intercept active fish. Successful anglers tend to fish deeper during the day, pulling baits higher as night approaches. Don’t be afraid of the dark; much of the best fishing occurs after the sun sets. The best areas include Huron, Ruggles Reef, Vermilion, and Cleveland. Hot baits this year have been Reef Runners in Lights Out, Purple Bear Naked and Chartreuse Wonderbread.

Late fall right before the ice comes in is absolutely the best time of year for shoreline anglers to catch their Lake Erie walleye. There are long piers along along the following areas of lake erie that are perfect to catch walleye as they feed on the gizzard shad Anglers will line up along these piers through out the night casting Rattle traps and Rapala Husky Jerks. The locations are as follows: Catawba State Park, Lakeside, Huron, Lorain, and Cleveland.

This can be hit-or-miss this time of year, but if you happen to be there when the walleye are herding schools of shad against the piers, be prepared for a memorable night of fishing. It is very important to be safe and prepared for night fishing and freezing slippery conditions on the piers. Warm clothing is a must, especially after dark; several companies make insulated coveralls with the added benefit of USCG-approved flotation that are ideally suited for cold-water boating. Wet boat decks and piers can freeze quickly, so adequate footwear and caution is recommended; traction aids designed for ice fishing can be very helpful.

Fishing after dark requires additional preparation. Headlamps are necessary for pier anglers and boaters, alike. Boaters should check for functional navigation lights, ship-to-shore radio, and GPS before departure. Boaters should place lights on planer boards as both a safety precaution and a fishing aid. Following your trip, special attention should be paid to draining all water from the boat bilge and outdrive/outboard to prevent damage by ice formation. Pier anglers need also to have a good fishing neck with a extremely long handle to reach down from the pier to water level. Following these recommendations will ensure a safe and memorable night on the water.
