Fly fishing for bass is one of the most popular types of fly fishing there is. The thrill of your first time to catch a largemouth bass, can be counted as one of the most thrilling fishing experiences you will have. Most anglers will use spinning or casting reels to catch bass. But if you really want a challenge, then you need to try fly fishing for one.

Fly fishing for bass certainly will not win you any fishing tournaments. But it is the most challenging way you will find to catch bass. It is far removed from most fly fishing techniques, such as fly fishing for trout in a mountain stream.

The rod used is heavier than those used for catching trout. Rods for bass fishing are usually 8 weight, a rod such as this is required because this type of fish takes some landing. Also the fly used would be larger as well. The leader used for this type of fishing would be shorter as well, 4-6 feet, with the tippet at around a 8 pound test line.

Bass are one of, if not the most popular fish in the Americas. Not only are they incredible fighters, but at least one species of bass can be found in almost any body of water from Canada, throughout the U.S. and into South America. Although not near as popular as bait casting and spin fishing, one of the best thrills in fishing is catching bass on a fly rod. Before you can do this though, you will need a Bass Fly Fishing setup. Here we will discuss the aspects that should be taken into account when choosing the best fly rod for bass, which is not as straight forward as it sounds! Bass come in many different sizes, strengths and species, and require different techniques for different situations. Let’s take a look at these aspects and then you can go through the link at the end to my website where we will talk more about brands and models of fly rods for bass.

Size: what weight fly rod will be best for Bass?

Bass come in all different sizes that vary widely with respect to species. The species not only determines size, but also strength. For instance, a Small Mouth Bass has the ability to put up as much fight as some fish twice its size. This needs to be taken in to account when choosing the best fly rod for Bass. All bass start out small, but can grow to large sizes. Therefore it is suggested that you go with a bass fly rod that is designed for the larger end of the spectrum. You will not want to be weak in back bone when you need it. Here is a generic list of species and the weights that are recommended for each.

<fb:like href="http://the-fly-fishing-guide.net/tag/bass-fishing/feed/" send="true" layout="button_count" width="450" show_faces="false" font="arial"></fb:like>

Fly fishing involves a certain type of equipment and tools more than your typical and traditional type of fishing, that a fishermen would approach. The rods for fly fishing are a lot longer and much more thinner than your everyday fishing rod. Because these are thinner they are a lot more flexible, and bamboo, care or synthetic carbon is what makes them. As for fly fishing you need that flexibility to cast the rod properly as far as you can go.

The fishing line is known as the fly line for fly fishing, which will be coated in a type of plastic to make sure that it has the right amount of weight for casting out to a considerable amount of distance. A fly line will have an aspects to them as to if they will sink or float. The bait is not a worm but an artificial fly, that can come from a natural hair or plant leaves, or they can be synthetic materials as well.

There are many ways to categories artificial flies, there is the largest division which is between dry flies and wet flies. They way dry flies are supposed to work so they make it look like they are fully grown adult insects. They are also used to contact the water before they zip above or along the surface of the water, this is in the hope that when a fish sees it, it will mistake it for the real thing and take a bite.

A wet fly is supposed to look like a dead or injured insect, or a young one and will have a lot more time in the water than the dry flies. Other types of flies included are nymphs, poppers, streamers, saltwater and a lure. Sometimes a fly will also be named for the specific target of the fish, for example a salmon, or bass.

In conclusion, fly fishing has a different technique to everyday fishing. The techniques that make it different are how you actually catch the fish. Your normal fishing would require you to be in a boat and have a thicker and shorter rod. Where as fly fishing involves the opposite, it has a longer, and skinner rod so that is easier to cast it further, and give more flexibility. There is also a different bait that is used, to attract the fish, with using flies instead of worm baits. Overall fly fishing can be quite dangerous but if you are an experience fishermen it might be the change of direction you need.

Bass fishing has a fascinating history. It started in the late 18th century and continues to progress even today. Fishing was originally practiced in

search of food among the people in the south of the United States. Since then, it has encompassed all ages and nations. Today, countries such as

Australia, Cuba, South Africa, The United States and most of Europe participate in this kind of event.

Timelines

    •	The year 1768 or 1770 represents the birth of bass fishing sports.

    •	William Shakespeare Jr. materializes the production of a level wind device and secured its patent on 1897.

    •	The William J. Jamison Co introduced the overly ornamented Shannon Twin Spinner in 1915 and was improved to create today’s spinner baits.

    •	In 1932, President Franklin D. Roosevelt instituted the creation of The Tennessee Valley Authority and encouraged the creation and building of

numerous dams. These dams were later used as fisheries for different species of bass.

    •	Five years later, DuPont Company filed patent for a nylon fishing net, this was later developed into nylon monofilament fishing line. Still in use

today. With some changes it stays straight and lasts quite a long time with cleaning and care.

    •	In the year 1992 Larry Nixon, the famous fisherman in the history of bass fishing won $1M total earnings for this sport on this year. Today we have

I’m excited to serve up this issue because I’ll be going over 6 different techniques for catching smallmouth bass “hand over fist”!

All 6 of these fall under a unique category of fishing that usually doesn’t apply to most bass fishermen. But if you test these out, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how many smallies you haul in.

Pay special attention to the “skating retrieval” technique. It’s a killer.

Speaking of “killer” techniques, tips and secrets for catching bass, check these guys out: These guys have all caught bass for a living… literally!

When you catch fish to feed the family, you’ll do whatever is necessary. You’re in store for some killer tactics (some of which are a little weird, but work like gangbusters.) You’re about to discover hundreds of crazy tactics for catching bass like:

* The clumsy mistake that turned a school of lazy smallmouth bass into an army of ravenous predators! (Mark and his buddy caught smallmouth like crazy – including a nice 5 pounder…now they make this same “mistake” every time…)

* A huge floating lure striped bass can’t resist! (Nobody ever thinks to try this… but Mark got lucky and discovered it by freak accident!)

* How Mark slammed a beautiful 6 pound bass in a lake stocked with trout… and a little secret you can use to do it too! (Everyone thought Mark was crazy for casting his big ugly lure… until they witnessed the big bass slam it — in stunned silence.) (His kids were so proud of their dad!)

* and so many more…from 12 different bass fishing gurus!

And now… 6 “weird” ways of catching smallies… The smallmouth bass is an exciting species that gets lots of attention from anglers of all ages and skill levels. One of the most popular methods used for catching this species is fly fishing .There are different methods of fly fishing used by anglers to get the best results in any given situation. Aside from choosing the right fly you also need to use different techniques. There are six methods of retrieval that are used by anglers that are fishing for the smallmouth bass. They are listed below.

Steady Retrieval Technique – This method mimics a baitfish dashing across the water in a panic to get away.

Strip and Pause Technique – The strip and pause method is the most commonly used and simple to perform. Have the tip of the rod slightly above the top of the water pointing downward. While the rod is in this position pull or strip the fly upward and this will force the fly to move upward. It should move about six inches before you relax the rod and pause a couple of minutes in-between stripping the fly. The smallmouth bass will strike the fly when it’s paused so be ready.

Skating Retrieval Technique – This method is excellent for getting the attention of the smallmouth bass and it’s also very simple to use. You basically skate the fly across the surface of the water and this captures the attention of the fish. Cast the fly downstream at an angle and follow the fly with the tip of your rod until it reaches a point below you. At this time you need to jiggle the fly for a couple of minutes to give the smallmouth bass a chance to take the bait.

Pop and Drift Technique – The pop and drift method is used mostly in clear water where the smallmouth bass tend to scare easier. Cast out your fly and allow it to drift on it’s own across the surface of the water. If you don’t get a bite you can try wiggling it just a bit to get their attention. Dead Drift Technique – This method requires that you cast the fly up and across the water and as soon as the fly hits the water, allow it to randomly drift downstream. Many times the smallmouth bass will follow it for a little ways and then strike. This is an excellent method to use on days when the wind is strong.

Pop and Stop Technique – This method is most effective in clear slow moving water. Instead of stripping the fly across the water you use a popping method that will make the fly bounce up and down. You can experiment with the different techniques to learn which ones work the best for you.

Types of flies There are many different types of surface flies designed to capture the attention of the smallmouth bass in a variety of ways. They are designed to be fished at different depths and they each have a specific characteristic that makes them special and attracts the fish in a different ways.

They are also designed to be fished in certain types of water conditions. It is interesting to know that just because a particular fly was designed to be fished a certain way doesn’t mean that is the only way it can be used. For example, the Muddler Minnow is a streamer that is designed to be used underwater but it can also be used on the surface of the water.

Here is a list of some of the different types of flies.

Divers Crease Flies Sliders Poppers Jitterbug Bass Flies Rapala These are just a few of the flies that are available and they all seem to work very well. Of course, the one that you should use will depend on where and when you are fishing for the smallmouth bass. This species is attracted to flies that mimic the movements of their naturalfood source because they stir up the surface of the water and capture their attention.

Surface Fly Fishing Surface fly fishing is one of the most popular techniques used for catching the smallmouth bass. They will strike flies that are on the surface with quite a bit of aggressiveness. This makes using a floating fly on the surface of the water extremely exciting. In clear water you can actually watch the fish chase down and strike your bait.

The retrieval method is probably the most important step involved in bass fly fishing. It is important to control the movement of the flies through the retrieval. The retrieval includes the presentation of the fly, the accuracy in which you place the bait in the strike zone and the action of the fly. All of these play a factor in how much success you have.

The smallmouth bass can be unpredictable. Therefore, you will need to experiment sometimes before you find a technique that works. A certain technique may work on one occasion but not on another, it all depends on what mood the smallmouth bass are in when you are fishing. In other words, sometimes you may be able to cast your fly and let it sit and the smallmouth will go after it. Other times you may need to do a slow retrieval and still others a fast retrieval. If one thing isn’t working don’t hesitate to try something else. It could be the key to your success.

Sometimes a small change in your technique can make a huge difference. For instance, changing the length of time that you pause between when the fly hits the water and when you begin to retrieve it may entice the smallmouth to strike. Just because something is working and you are catching the smallmouth bass doesn’t mean that it’s always the best technique to use.

Therefore, experiment from time to time. You may be surprised at the results.

Regardless of which technique you use, don’t allow slack to gather in your line. If this happens and you get a bite, you won’t be able to set the hook correctly and you will most likely lose the catch.

…and that’s what I’ve got!

I hope you’re still making the time to get out and catch a few every now and then, even if we’re in Mid November here.

I hope you get out fishing over the weekend, and if you get a chance to try any of the tips above, let me know. And don’t forget to check out the Bass Fishing Secret Weapon for even better catches.
It is actually in some cases tricky for the novice angler to distinguish the distinctions amongst a largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Then again, you will find options you can actually see, geographical distinctions, discrepancies, dimensions variation and conduct that will assist you distinguish an individual species from an additional. This article will assist you to know the distinctions between largemouth bass and smallmouth bass.

To begin with, let’s get seem with the dimension of these fish. Typically, the largemouth is even larger than the smallmouth bass, both equally from the mouth and all round. Clearly, largemouth bass mature greater general.

The following difference is derived from their names, instead of also hard to guess. The largemouth bass certainly does have a very very massive mouth, which can open rather extensive, a lot wider than the smallmouth, resulting in the nickname ‘bucketmouth’. The way to notify for guaranteed no matter if you’re dealing with a largemouth or smallmouth is by examining the mouth when it is closed. With the largemouth bass, the corner in the jaw extends past the eyes. Nonetheless, to get a smallie, the corner of the mouth only extends on the center in the eyes.

Coloration will be the future thing that distinquishes the 2 bass species. A smallmouth bass is greenish or brownish in color which has a quantity of distinctive vertical bars on its sides. The deep bronze coloring on prime is what offers the smallies the nicknames bronzeback. A largemouth bass, however, is, usually, more greenish that has a somewhat lighter background thatn the smallmouth, and with a distinctive, single bar that runs laterally along the sides in the physique. Its dorsal fin is essentially divided in two, with 9 spines with the front portion. Note, nevertheless, that geography does play a part from the coloration of bass-they are also termed ‘black bass’ for a explanation. Largemouths are typically darker colored during the south.

Largemouth bass prefer warmer water than smallmouths, at temperatures of 75 to eighty diploma, when smallmouths desire a colder environment. Largemouth can be a lot of in weedy areas with fallen trees and and logs although smallmouth are gathered in deep, crystal clear water with gravel in the bottom. Often, the largemouth desires to stay in shallow water when to your contrary the smallmouth bass likes deep areas-reflective of its preference for cooler water. Largemouths are relatively loners but smallmouth bass usually travel that has a group of fish comprised of essentially the identical size.

They’re both members in the sunfish loved ones. In regards to catching them and how to fish for bass, then again, largemouth is often lured with bait presenting over the water whereas smallmouth bass are generally to be taken with bait presented beneath the surface. When caught, a largemouth helps make an individual great jump in advance of going back to water when the smallmouth fish will present various leap and aim to throw the hook. A smallmouth dancing across the surface when hooked will not be uncommon. Lastly, compared to the smallie, the largemouth is kind of a lethargic fighter.

The evolution of fishing gear and accessories along with the development of the bass fishing industry brought about the development of various lures specifically used for different fish species.

There are many types or class of lures and they all depend on what type of fish works for them. Many only work for specific types but some cover a wide range of species of fish.

Best Soft Fishing Tackle Bags

Below are some of the typical lures used for fishing.

Light Standard Casting Lures

For Standard casting lures, they are mostly able to attract a wide range of fish varieties from albacore, bluefish, bonita, oho and crappies. These lures are also excellent for certain species of bass fish and work best when retrieved from water at low to medium speed. They pass through water with undetectably synthetic material.

Inflatable Motormount Fishing Boats

Their sizes are excellent for lightweight fish and a host of freshwater species. They range from 1/16 oz. to 3 oz.

The hand painted eye is enticing enough to allow schooling of fish. This feature allows for more chances of trapping one of the target fish in the water.

Heavy Standard Casting Lures

Heavy Standard Casting Lures are excellent for quite heavy fish specifically, walleye and bass. While the lightweight lures are used in most circumstances, it was shown that heavy counterparts provide more reliable fishing output.

Inflatable Pontoon Fishing Boats by SeaEagle

Moreover, the heavy standard lures are able to catch fish than diamond and light standard casting lures.

Long Casting/Jigging Lures

Perhaps the most popular among the fishing lures are the long, tapered jigging lures. They are perhaps the most commonly used fishing lures among the fishermen in Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana.

Just recently, it was found out that the long casting lures work best for catching trout and pike. They were also found to effectively catch stripers and bluefish. They can catch tuna and walleye in a breeze!

Unlike heavy standard lures, this gear won’t produce good fish-catch output up to 180-200 ft under water but be sure to effectively match your lure color, bait and related accessories to maximize performance.

Deadly Diamond Lures

These lures are one of the smallest with sizes ranging from 1/8 to 1oz. They can seamlessly attract attention among fish and could form a school of fish in a minute!

The reason is it lies on its structural surface formation and cut. The top handle is cut like a diamond and causes the reflection of light striking on its surface. The diamond lures are best for catching bass fish varieties, crappie and stripers although they work on a small range of fish species.

If you are “big” in the Bass world, or at least want to be, the St Croix Legend Tournament Bass Teaser rod is a must have piece in your fishing arsenal. Made from St Croix’s cutting edge graphite, this rod provides the bass fisherman, at any level, a competent tool with which to “land” any bass your able to set a hook in.

The fishing rod is built with St. Croix’s high-modulus and high-strain SCIV graphite, marking the very first time such substance have been utilized on both St. Croix casting and spinning fishing rods. The Teaser fishing rod is built with both IPC and also the all-new ART technological innovation. The Cobalt blue metallic blank is extremely pleasing to the eye and is accompanied with high quality Fuji guides housed in brilliant frames wrapped with corresponding blue threads and also satin silver metallic trim.

Advanced Reinforcing Technology, or ART, is a proprietary St. Croix manufacturing procedure, which adds strength without adding weight or even increasing the rod’s diameter. Each one of the Legend Tournament Bass fishing rods applies ART from the butt and up, generally to about three-fourths of the blank. St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass. ART utilizes a layer of unique unidirectional carbon fiber that is very powerful and thin, and is wrapped around rather than along the blank. This permits the Teaser fishing rod to be created without increasing its diameter or weight, and prevents “ovaling” or wall deformation of a circular blank while underneath a stressful load. Also, ART adds roughly a 10 fold increase in strength as well as protection against accidental crushing.

Having a fast jerk of the rod you are able to apply a solid hook set each and every time thanks to the quick action tip. Avid Series Inshore Rod. As soon as hooked, the rod will handle fish with authority along with support from the powerful butt section.

Heritage fisheries are carefully maintained aquatic preserves in various parts of the world where a tradition or habitat surrounding fishing has been protected from today’s modern hazards. A heritage fishery may be a lake, river or part of the ocean; its locale having less to do with its heritage designation than preservation of a certain style or era. Heritage fishing’s purpose is twofold: to experience fishing as it was in the past and to preserve fishing for the future.

Glendalough State Park is the newest member of the Minnesota State Parks family. Its land was given to the state by a private donor in the 1990s and the lakes on the park acreage were fished privately for nearly a hundred years. No one other than members of the donor’s family or their guests was allowed to utilize the lakes at Glendalough State Park. As a result, fish sizes and populations in the Glendalough lakes are more representative of historic times than of modern times.

Annie Battle Lake, the largest of the Glendalough Lakes, allows the angler to experience fishing as it was in Minnesota during the 1800s. Motors of any kind are not allowed on the lake. Canoes and rowboats are available for rental at the park office and shore fishing is a pleasure from any location here. Gas powered vehicles are prohibited, as are any type of electronic fish-finding device.

Large bass, panfish, walleye and northern pike abound under the crystal clear waters of Annie Battle Lake because the waters are unpolluted by gas or oil. Catch-and-release regulations and fishing limits are strictly enforced here, maintaining the size and count of the population for generations to come. A small brook connecting Annie Battle Lake to another of the park lakes is waist deep with a sandy bottom, providing excellent wading areas for bass fishing.

The Lave Net Fishery at Blackrock on the Severn Estuary in Wales is the last of its kind in Wales and has also been designated as a heritage fishery. Treacherous tidal waters averaging speeds of 7-8 knots have witnessed generations of fishermen pass along this fishing technique. Less than a dozen lave net fishing licenses are issued by the Welsh government each year, with all belonging to a local association dedicated to preserving this unique method of salmon fishing. The only noticeable difference between modern and historic lave netters are that they now sport waders as opposed to animal skins.

The lave net itself, a Y-shaped structure constructed of wood and a hand-made net, remains unchanged. Anglers wade into the river and either “cower”, waiting for the salmon to approach him, or watch for the telltale salmon splashes announcing their location. The fisherman can then net the fish before they head to deeper water. This kind of fishing is restricted by law and by the tides. Anglers have about 1.5 hours before low tide to practice their craft when conditions are calm. Their knowledge of the tides and of the area, received from the generation before, serves as their guide.

Kjaerra Laxefiske on the Kjaerrafossen River near Helgeland, Norway dates back to 1388. Ownership of the two heritage fisheries here is marked by the “markebol”, a medieval unit of measurement. Salmon are caught via the use of ancient fishing tools, while the buildings surrounding the fisheries were restored to medieval timber and stone during the 1950s. Visitors are welcomed to the weekly opening of salmon pots every Thursday where the catch of the week is revealed.

Wherever they are located, heritage fisheries are an important part of the environment and the community. In addition to offering the simple thrill of fishing itself, they provide an opportunity to learn from the past, as well as preserving the present heritage of fishing for future anglers.
