Introduction To Fly Fishing

Over the last 2000 years humans have employed numerous methods of archery, fishing and hunting in order to find food. Over that time, fly fishing has become seen by many anglers as the essential method of fishing requiring skill, patience and stealth. Indeed trout fishing is by far the most rewarding fishing whether boat fishing or bank fishing.

When compared to other forms of fishing and the fishing equipment required at the bank, fly fishing stands out above the rest due to the limited fishing equipment that is needed; allowing greater stretches of a river or lake to be explored in a session. By employing what is essentially a fishing lure presented in such a way as to convince the fish it is a living creature worth devouring encompasses all that relates to the history of archery, fishing and hunting.

Which Rod?

There are several things that you need to think about when choosing the right type

of fly fishing. Every reel and fly fishing rod has a certain function and knowing the function is critical to its success.

One of the first things that you need to consider is comfort. Is the rod that you’re

using comfortable for you to hold? If you’re shorter than about 5’5″ you won’t

want to use a rod that is seven feet. Choose a fly fishing rod length that is easy for you to hold and cast for a few hours at a time.

Most of the fly fishing rods on the market today are designed to allow you to feel when a fish takes the bait. The shaft of the fly fishing rod is called a “blank” and when the rod is first manufactured the blank is made from fiberglass, graphite, or other materials. Each

of these blanks has an action that is either: light, medium, medium/heavy, or

heavy. The upper portion will also have an action that is either: extra light, light,

or regular. Both ends of the blank are assembled and the final result is a fishing rod, complete with a handle and guide. No matter what type of rod that you’re using, the “action” of the rod will refer to the “blank”. The action of the rod will have a great

deal to do with the type of fishing that you’re doing.

Now go to your local tackle shop and ask to try out a range of rods in order to decide which best suits yourself. This will be an individual thing and the only way is to try the rods bearing in mind .

Which Reel?

Reels – There are three main types of reels that you can choose from when it

comes to fly fishing: (1) baitcasting reels, (2) spinning reels, and (3) spincast reels. The reel that you choose will depend your own personal preferences.

Baitcasting reels: Baitcasting reels have better accuracy and control of the lure

than other reels. They are better equipped to handle lines that are ten or more

pounds in weight. The one thing to be aware of when using a baitcasting reel is

that they often have the tendency to snarl or fight back when the spool starts to

spin faster than the line that is being played out. This is particularly true if you are

casting into the wind.

Fly fishing for bass is one of the most popular types of fly fishing there is. The thrill of your first time to catch a largemouth bass, can be counted as one of the most thrilling fishing experiences you will have. Most anglers will use spinning or casting reels to catch bass. But if you really want a challenge, then you need to try fly fishing for one.

Fly fishing for bass certainly will not win you any fishing tournaments. But it is the most challenging way you will find to catch bass. It is far removed from most fly fishing techniques, such as fly fishing for trout in a mountain stream.

The rod used is heavier than those used for catching trout. Rods for bass fishing are usually 8 weight, a rod such as this is required because this type of fish takes some landing. Also the fly used would be larger as well. The leader used for this type of fishing would be shorter as well, 4-6 feet, with the tippet at around a 8 pound test line.

Though these kind of waters are fantastic places to fly fish, it’s also possible to enjoy amazing flyfishing inside warm waters of ponds and lakes, along with brine – and catch a broad assortment of fish. There’s probably a body of water you can use for flyfishing not too definately not in your geographical area.

Learning to fly fish is surely an entertainment, challenging and also a real downright pleasure.. it really is a love/hate relationship. Just the pig ignorant angler thinks they know it all for fishing is much like life, a series of good and bad – points in the great pleasure accompanied by points in the massive frustration. When ‘never again’ are accompanied by ‘when can one go fishing again’.

Finding out how to fly fish takes a little bit of serious amounts of experience as well as the best method to find out how to fly fish is only to participate in doing the work.

Flyfishing is a little unique of fishing with a spinning fishing reel and rod. When flyfishing, the angler works on the heavy line to cast an incredibly light fly (a lure that looks just like a fly). In spin fishing, the angler works on the light line to cast a much heavier lure.

By design, a fly is just too light being cast, thereby simply follows the unfurling of your properly cast fly line, which can be heavier and tapered and for that reason more castable than lines employed in other fishing.

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/t2SgcCw6I8M?version=3&f=videos&app=youtube_gdata" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width=425" height="350">
How to Fly Fish

Flyfishing is really a fun approach to catch bluegills , trout , bass and lots of other kinds of fish that live in American waters. Fly fishing is just not too hard to find out, however it helps you just read through to the sport and practice with an experienced angler.

To start out flyfishing you will need a fly rod, a line and a few artificial flies. The idea is usually to catch fish through getting these to bite with an imitation of your bug or baitfish on, or simply below, water. Flies are manufactured using thread, wire, beads, feathers, yarn and hair, and they are designed to appear to be insects and baitfish at various stages of maturity to get trout, salmon, panfish and carp, along with marine species for example tarpon, bonefish and stripers.

In flyfishing, getting the right gear increases your odds of success. Learning to put it to use and it in tip-top shape helps too.

Flyfishing guides knows where the best fish are when they’ll be there.

Flyfishing is just not too hard to find out, however it helps you just read through to the sport and practice with an experienced angler.

Flyfishing gear is available at most shoe stores plus it pays to buy around. Some gear is incredibly expensive a big great equipment that’s not expensive.

Fly Fishing is understanding how to imitate nature because you fool the fish into taking your carefully selected fly.

There is no doubt that fly fishing is one of the oldest and most sought at getaway activity by most people from the hustle and bustle of city life. It dates back as early as ancient times as a means of catching trout and salmons, and now used to catch almost any other fish species in the lakes and oceans. It needs a lot of skills in order to properly catch the fish using the artificial fly and not everyone knows it the first time. Most people resort to reading books on how-to’s and asks assistance and advice from friends who already knew how. A better and more comprehensive way of learning it is through fly fishing lessons from professionals and experts. When looking for the right fly fishing lessons, these are the common things to consider.

1. Costs – When you have passion for a certain thing, you would not mind the cost of learning or achieving it. But for practicality purposes, if it’s too expensive and there are other cheaper options, it’s definitely not worth it. Fly fishing lessons must be budget friendly. Look for the right fishing lessons budget that fits your pocket. Whether you are buying a book or hiring a professional, make sure that every penny you spent is worth it.

2. Time Frame – the faster the lessons starts and ends the better. There are so many other things going on in your life, you wouldn’t want to spend all your time learning it and end up short of time actually applying what you have learned. The sooner you are able to fly fish, the better. Of course, despite the faster time frame, make sure that quality is not compromised. This can only be done if the teacher or trainer is an expert and he gives tips that are practical and easy to understand, or of the book is outlined and presented in such a way that you can easily grasp its content.

3. Technique – There are various methods of fly fishing and learning them all at one time is hard. Therefore, make sure that you know which technique you want to learn first and master it before learning another technique. Look for a book which focuses on each technique so that you can read through everything you want to learn from that technique and master it by applying it when given the chance.

4. Complete Package – Don’t just learn the other side of it, learn everything. When looking for the right fly fishing lessons, look for the complete package or book which do not only teach you the techniques but everything else about it such as the proper tools, how to properly maintain the tools, where to buy such tools, and any other tips and reminders in fly fishing.

There are many people who learn to do it themselves by following instructions from various fly fishing books. But most of them have to learn it the hard way, because they did not purchase either the appropriate book or an adequate book that is why when choosing the right fly fishing lessons, make sure you purchase from quality, reputable authors or companies.

When you are fly fishing for trout, the main purpose of the fly line is to carry the fly to the fish. The fly itself is basically weightless; so it will not help you reach across the stream to that exact spot where you are sure a “lunker” is waiting. Your fly line does all the distance work for you — with your knowledge and skill of how to cast of course.

Fly line density is the technical term here. Density refers to whether the fly line will float or sink; and, if it sinks, how deep and how fast.

There are five densities available; the floating line, sink-tip line, intermediate sinking line, sinking line or fast-sinking line.

FLOATING LINE

The floating line does precisely as named – it floats. Perceived as the easiest to cast and a mandatory first for beginning fly fishing anglers, the floating fly line is undoubtedly the most popular. This is the preferred line when fishing with dry flies; and is also used with streamers and nymphs. With dry flies, the goal is to mimic a floating insect which primarily stays on the surface with occasionally the current pulling it slightly under.

Unlike dry flies, streamers and nymphs come in a variety of weights which allows them to sink slightly and then we pulled to the surface when retrieved. Again, this movement is designed to look like the aquatic food of the trout with its natural shape and movement and thus provokes a nice trout to “get his dinner”.

A fishing adventure provides the much-needed peace in the hustle and bustle of daily life. Fly fishing takes you into nature’s lap and helps you relax and rejuvenate. Location for a trip is never a problem, nature has gifted us many water bodies and fly-fishing can be undertaken in any of them, be it the river, stream or the bay. Following are some of the well-known locations for fly fishing:

1. Chalk Streams of Hampshire, England:
The modern fly fishing began at the chalk streams of Hampshire. This is the place where Izaak Walton, author of ‘ The Compleat Angler’ practiced fly fishing. Even today, the English continue to undertake fly-fishing in the chalk streams, but since these streams are situated on privately owned and managed land, access to the streams is scheduled. Fly fishing in the chalk streams will give you the authentic English fishing experience.

2. Labrador, Canada:
The rivers in Labrador in the eastern region of Canada are home to the native brook trout. The brook trout found in Labrador typically weigh from 3 to more than 8 pounds and are rarely ever seen in the United States.

Pictures can paint a thousand words. In the case of fly fishing pictures, most of it shows a man holding up a huge trout or salmon showing off their catch. This particular picture can show us how fulfilling it must be to catch your very own fish. It is like holding up your own medal of success. Before, people do fly fishing to provide food in the table or to sell it to the market for money. However, as the time went by more and more people are getting interested in the hobby and sport and even a working professional can learn how to fly fish. If the main motivation in the past to do it is for survival and physiologic needs, now, it is more used for relaxation and pastime.

Before any beginner can experience the joy of fly fishing, we must first be willing to take on the challenge of learning it first. It doesn’t only mean placing bait into a hook and then casting it into the water. It needs more skills than that. There are some fly fishing pictures which shows a fisherman angling the rod to cast the line perfectly into the water. This is because there are various ways of casting and angling to make sure that the target fish will take the bait. Although our job is slightly eased by the fly – an artificial fly or bait – because of its attractive color and shape, we also need to place that bait in the right place at the right time for the fish to notice it and eventually take it. One good technique is dry fishing. This is called as dry fishing because we do not submerge the bait into the water. Although most of the fish are caught on the baits well dipped into the water, the baits which only hit the surface can also attract a decent amount of fish to keep us busy and on our feet. This technique could also give us good pictures to keep. Opposite to this technique is nymph fishing. This is more effective in deeper waters because fishes here tend to swim much deeper. Doing dry fishing on deep waters is a futile effort. This is because nymph fishing is more effective in placing the bait in the fish’s site making it possible to attract the target fish and catch it.

Beginners and seasoned enthusiasts alike are keen on keeping their memories of fly fishing. This is why fly fishing pictures are integral in the activity. This is to remind us of the moments where we relaxed with nature and learned how to fish or catch a really large one. Pictures are good memorabilia of the moment where we first felt the tug at the end of the line and caught our very first trout or salmon. There are also pictures taken of people who join the sports events in fly fishing. This is a very good way of documenting events and can add to the colorful history of fly fishing. We can see such pictures in magazines and internet articles and websites.
